My brain is in a mess.

It’s been a month since my 24th bday. Life is good and I can’t complain.

Turning 24 has been amazing to say the least.

I’ve been at the same company for 1 1/4 yrs – not bad for a first job and I’m really glad with it.

We have new friends (: I remember there was a time when we would joke that we where going to get so sick of each others faces after being friends for so long. Also because we’re seriously not the most sociable people in the world. But hey, all hope is not lost. We managed to find others just like us (:

Its really an absence makes the heart grow fonder kind of relationship, because I miss these guys the moment we’re apart. How sickeningly mushy.

There is so much love in my life – I no longer feel lonely, because I’m just so content with myself.

Health is seriously not to be taken for granted. Ade & I were told that we have gastritis. Its nasty, but it’s kept me in check. I’ve changed my diet, cut down on everything unhealthy (trust me, it wasn’t easy) and started exercising. I must say, I feel a lot better because of it.

I’ve managed to carve out time to do things I love. Silent sitting, active meditation and reading (latest in line have been Chroma by Derek Jarman and The Monocle) One for the heart and one for the brain.

I know that this post could make me sound like a pompous arse, but I’m just so glad it’s all fallen into place because it hasn’t been easy.

You know, when you’re young, you get so afraid of growing up for some reason. But I wouldn’t change anything and I’m so glad to be here. Happy 24th to me (:

* I changed my theme, so there might be some clipping in old photos.

Patience

My card for July is Patience.

Patience is always tricky. Telling someone to be patient is like telling a child not to move, it makes you want to be impatient.

We have forgotten how to wait; it is almost an abandoned space. And it is our greatest treasure to be able to wait for the right moment. The whole existence waits for the right moment. Even trees know it–when it is time to bring the flowers and when it is time to let go of all the leaves and stand naked against the sky. They are still beautiful in that nakedness, waiting for the new foliage with a great trust that the old has gone, and the new will soon be coming, and the new leaves will start growing. We have forgotten to wait, we want everything in a hurry. It is a great loss to humanity…. In silence and waiting something inside you goes on growing–your authentic being. And one day it jumps and becomes a flame, and your whole personality is shattered; you are a new man. And this new man knows what ceremony is, this new man knows life’s eternal juices.

I remember, after the reading the complete mindfuck that is The Buddha Said… By Osho, this was my favorite quote.

Someone pointed out to me that I’ve been so busy having fun that I’ve been neglecting this part of my life. How do you say it without making it sound like complete bullshit? Yea.. spiritual side I guess. Time to pay more attention to it.

Luck is when opportunity meets hard work

I know this is a very overused statement. But I believe it to be true.

Most of the people I’m close to were not born rich. And cause we’re all still relatively young, we’re not well off by our own means yet. But its really comforting to see that we are hard working. Cause I know we’re going to get somewhere someday. And ppl will call it luck, but we’ll always know the truth.

Want vs. Need

with one comment

I make lists for the fun of it all the time, so I though of sharing this current one with you.

Want vs. need

Of course I want lots of things, but these are the things I want now – like of the top of my head (if you exclude sleep and other things I don’t want to blog about)

WANT

1. Bright colored dresses – the thing about shopping is that when you’re cheap like me, you tend to spend more on basics without even realizing it. Basics last longer, do not follow any trends and are usually cheaper.

Living in Singapore means that it’s hot all year round (or wet), but I still have managed to amass a collection of dresses in neutral colors, save for 2/3 colored ones. I WANT MORE. Bright colored clothes really do lift your spirits.

2. A box clutch – I have a nice black over-sized clutch that I’ve been using since I got it in Bangkok for $12, it’s awesome, holds everything I need and has received many compliments. I want a colored little one that fits in my hand. I’m fickle, I need variety.

3. Books, and some time to read it will be nice – these days, books seem to be such a luxury. I no longer go to the library the way I used to as a child, mostly because the library is really not that convenient and the fact that I have to finish it and return the books in 3 weeks is just not appealing anymore. I love having books, sharing them, re-reading them, highlighting and scribbling on them and keeping them for future references. I tried the whole library thing again recently, I’ve outgrown it.

NEED

1. Sunglasses – that do not cost $3 and have a case. The ones that I own right now were bought for $5 and under, have been dumped in my handbag and thus are beautifully scratched, wonky or have smudges on them that cannot be removed. I need a new pair. I’m thinking Charles & Keith outlet store – below $30.

2. Skincare + makeup

I DO NOT believe in scrimping on stuff that goes on my face and hair, they’re wayyy to important. I’ve been pretty loyal to Origins the last year, its been pretty good for my face. BUT I need to start on Anti-aging now, now, now, as I’ve started to notice fine lines and dark circles under my eyes. L’ancome Genifique, you need to become mine.

Also looking to get a new concealer/powder, this one from bare Minerals at Sephora fits the bill perfectly.

3. Luggage – I need a new weekend luggage bag – I’ve been planning holidays and it dawned upon me that I threw away my last luggage. It broke. Time to get a new one.

Other things that have been on my mind:

  1. Phone – My Nokia is 1.5 yrs old and its dying. The iPhone is waiting for me. I need to get one.
  2. Yoga – Exercise + Stretching, plus I need to add more quiet into my life
  3. Travel – Booked for KL, Bintan & Taipei. Considering Vietnam with my family and looking forward to confirming Lombok for December (: (: (:

I don’t know what you heard bout me

leave a comment »

I had to make a list like this at work today. I like the fact that we do things like this at work – makes the day slightly more interesting.

  1. I appreciate good alcohol. When I first started drinking it was all bout getting tipsy, but now, just give me a glass of single malt scotch and I’ll be happy. I can even stop at one. And don’t u fking dare put ice or anything carbonated in it.
  2. I have an extremely short attention span. Friends will vouch that I give up almost too easily when it comes to things that require patience (DIY anybody?) So I often plan my life around this. I divide my work day into hr long intervals – cause I often need to do smthg else after an hr – if not I become bored, distracted and completely unproductive.
  3. I love things that tug at my heartstrings – be it music, books or movies. My favorite things often make me cry, and I am completely unashamed about it.
  4. I’m terrified of roaches and fire. I was afraid to use a lighter till I was about 15 – and I was afraid of the feeling the heat from a ciggie the first few times I smoked.
  5. I love mindless comedy – How I Met Your Mother, Big Bang Theory, Friends, Will & Grace, Modern Family – its helps me relax.
  6. My fav dog breeds: Husky, Malamute and Choc Labs // Cat breeds: Ocicat, Norwegian Forest and  Scottish Fold
  7. I hate overplayed music – there are certain songs that you hear EVERYWHERE – while shopping, during adverts, in malls. I always grow to hate them.
  8. I harbor thoughts about pursuing my master’s degree – I would do it in something like globalization or international marketing. I genuinely find these things really interesting.
  9. I love being a budget traveller – give me a cheap flight + a cheap hotel anyday. My only pre requisites are that it has to be CLEAN, and it cannot have insects.
  10. I’m a serious hippie at heart. I would stop eating meat, do yoga and meditate everyday if I had the means.

with one comment

First try at vintage nails… I think I’ll like them once I clean them up a bit. Its a little messy, I’m such an amateur, but I really like the colour combi.

What do u think?
